In the theater house, devotion comes to life. The players, musicians, artists, service providers, and spectators all gather to indulge in fantasy.
We are all performers, narrating our lives through stories. At the root of our existence lies this truth: we amuse ourselves with life. How do you indulge in it?
How do you secure the sweet release of pain and pleasure?
In defence of the performance, in defence of the storyteller, in defence of the painter, in defence of the ballerina, in defence of the songbird, in defence of the muse, in defence of the writer, in defence of the composer, in defence of the arts.
We create the worlds we live in. We decide what we value. So why not value self-creation above all else? How does a character engage with destiny, with their ideal reality? They practice—while the fates weave their lessons. Aren’t we all just echoes of the original characters?
Consider how theater players engage with their pretend world. They practice. They craft backstories, even for silent roles. They forge connections between themselves and their characters.
Now, what if you applied this to yourself? What connections would you make with your ideal self? What practices would you devote yourself to?
The woman performs in many ways—it is her gift to the world. She consumes literature and art, tending to her soul. She recites poetry in the mirror, feels pleasure pulse through her body, and enjoys the intimacy of her private life.
She no longer strives for perfection. She no longer seeks much at all. In this state of indifference, she enters the darkness. Her subconscious guides her choices.
The woman is abstract—she reveals only glimpses of her depth while playing a role. She prefers this distance. They call it mystery, but really, her indifference forms a delicate veil between the outer world and her inner fantasy.
The performance is how we become.
For those of us who value self-expression, philosophy, beauty, and art—for those willing to devote time to the practice of selfhood and craft—the stage is always ours.
The Power Of Vanity
The young girl gazed at her reflection in the mirror while the world around her faded into darkness. Suddenly, her reflection began to shift, revealing different versions of herself—each one telling a distinct story, embodying different characters, and expressing various truths - all her path. The mirror became a powerful source of possibility.
